Anahita International Photography specializes in 19th to 21st century international photography with a focus on Russia and Central Asia. Our Canyon Road gallery shows artists from early Soviet modernists to underground artists from the 1960s and 1970s and straight edge contemporary work by Russia's top art photographers. The gallery also shows ethnographic and art photography from Uzbekistan, Tibet, Africa, Japan, and the USA.


Appraisal:

Anahita Gallery provides reliable, expert, USPAP certified appraisal services for insurance, museum donations, identification, and loss for all forms of art from Central Asia and the surrounding regions, including antiquities, Islamic art, metalwork, ceramics, carpets, kilims, ikat, embroideries and other textile arts.

Andrew Hale is an experienced appraiser of all forms of photography and sound recordings for estate, charitable donation, and insurance purposes.

Anahita Gallery online offers fine, collectors' textiles and ethnographic ornament from Central Asia. We also carry a wide variety of antique, mid-20th century and contemporary decorative wall-hangings and bedcovers (suzani). Ancient, ethnographic, and textile art shown by appointment. Skilled, experienced consulting and appraisal work related to ethnographic and ancient art, with a special focus on textiles.

Gallery owner Andrew Hale has more than thirty years of experience working in the art of Central Asia. Together with co-author Kate Fitz Gibbon, he has published numerous articles and three books on Central Asian art, focusing on photography, urban and nomadic textiles, architectural materials, Islamic metalwork, and the Central Asian Bronze Age. Their second book, Ikat: Silks of Central Asia, The Guido Goldman Collection, received the George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award for Best Art Book of 1997. Uzbek Embroidery in the Nomadic Tradition: The Jack A. and Aviva Robinson Collection for the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts was published in 2007. They have recently contributed to books on the Henkel Collection of Germany, to be published in 2009 and the Megalli Collection for the Textile Museum, Washington, DC, to be published in 2010.
