1.    Anonymous, Prayer Rugs from Private Collections    Textile Museum, Washington, DC, 1974. Small pamphlet with 33 black and white photos of rugs considered to be prayer rugs. Cover has minor scuffs and one small tear, otherwise excellent, 37 pages, 6 x 9 inches. $10.00

2.    Centlivres, Pierre, Les Insturments De Musique De Perse Et D'Afghanistan…, Bernischen Historischen Museum, 1971/1972. Offprint of a survey of musical instruments from Iran and Afghanistan, 16 pages with 26 black and white photo illustrations, excellent, original copy condition. In French. $10.00

3.    Chandra, Rai Govind, Indo-Greek Jewellery, Abhinav Publications, 1979. Dust jacket has many tears with some missing parts, book itself is in excellent condition, 120 pages of text, many black and white illustrations of ancient Indian jewelry, printed in India. $20.00   

4.    Gobl, Robert, Die Drei Versionen Der Kanishka-Inschrift Von Surkh Kotal, Der Osterreichen Akademie Der Wissenschaften    1965. Minor creases and marks on cover, small sticker, 24 pages of text, 17 plates of black and white illustrations, 8.25 x 11.75 inches. $25.00

5.    Joel L Malter and Co., Auction catalogs and Collector's Journals, Malter Gallery, 1973-1993. Lot of 29 auction catalogs and 10 copies of the Malter published Collectors' Journal of Ancient Art. Not a complete run of either catalogs or journals but there is the first of each.  I am not sure if they actually published a catalog for every auction so I can't say what is missing.  In any case, they are useful as a reference especially for ancient coins and seals, Malter's strong points.  There is large range of material here, Near East, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Islamic, Afghan, African, PreColumbian, Japanese, Chinese, etc.  Interesting collection of objects of all types.  Condition is generally good to excellent.  A few have stains and written notes. Mostly 8.5 x 11 inches. $100.00 for the lot.

6.     Kagan, Ju, Western European Cameos in the Hermitage Museum, Aurora Art Publishers, 1973. Small book with good color plates,  slipcase is torn and stained, book itself is excellent except for some staining of white cover. $10.00

7.    le Bon, Gustave, La Civilisation des Arabes, Librairie de Firmin-Didot et Cie, 1884. Important early study of Islamic art and society, lavishly illustrated with 10 full page chromolithographs, 366 small and 70 full page illustrations, largely but not entirely restricted to the Arab world of Islam, Green and black cloth and leather binding has some scuffs, soiling, slight peeling of cloth typical of an old book, text is clean and bright with almost no trace of foxing anywhere.  705 pages, 9 x 11.2 inches. In French. $500.00

8.    Longworth Dames, M., A Text Book of the Balochi Language, Punjab Government Press, 1891. (Original 19th century book on the Balochi language.) Consisting of Miscellaneous Stories, Legends, Poems and a Balochi-English Vocabulary. Fair condition in crude later hard binding, stains, foxing, writing, etc none of which obscure the text.  Some Brit used this to teach himself Baloch back in the day!  115 pages of text, 8.5 x 12.5 inches. $125.00

9.    May, Franka, Silberschmuck Aus Der Samlung Fraschina, Berischen Historischen Museum, 1961/1962. Offprint of an article on Turkmen jewelry, 10 pages, 7 illustrations, 6.5 x 9.4 inches Original copy. In German.    $10.00

10.    Moshkova, Carpets of the Peoples of Central Asia in the Late XIXth and Early XXth Centuries, FAN, 1970. Well known study of Central Asian weaving , 99 full page black and white drawings of designs, 78 smaller illustrations and photos, typical Soviet production… cover tattered and missing some small chunks, text clean, essential for serious collectors/researchers, otherwise buy the O'Bannon translation. In Russian.  256 pages,  10.5 x 13.5 inches. $200.00

11.    Postnikova-Loseva, M., Russian Gold and Silver Filigree, Iskusstvo, 1981. Interesting survey of the filigree technique in Russia.  Examples shown in 126 mostly color plates range from jewelry, ikons to decorative objects.  Mostly 16th to 19th century, though there are some junky examples from the Soviet period as well. Plates have captions in English and Russian.  The text is in Russian with a three page summary in English in the back.  Excellent condition with the exception to some wear to the corners of the hard cover.  5.8 x 7.8 inches    $20.00

12.    Radloff, V. V., South-Siberian Oral Literature, Volumes I and II, Indiana University Publications, 1967. Rare reprint of Radloff's 1866 landmark Proben Der Volkslitteratur der Turkishen Stamme Sud-Sibiriens etc., in German and Russian (with the Turkic languages in Cyrillic script) with brief introduction in English by Denis Sinor, some fading on cover, otherwise excellent condition.    $275.00

13.    Radloff, Wilhelm, Aus Sibirien, Anthropological Publications, 1968. Photomechanical reprint of Radloff's 1898  account of his travels and work in Siberia, an important work. In German. Excellent condition apart from a few minor nicks on the hardcover and one tear on a illustration plate (not into image), no dust jacket, two volumes bound as one, 534 + 486 pages, 31 plates with illustrations, map, 5.5 x 7.75 inches. $150.00

14.    Schlumberger, Daniel, et al, Surkh Kotal En Bactriane, Volume 1, two books with plates and text, Diffusion De Boccard, 1983. Volumes 1: Les Temples: Architecture, Sculpture, Inscriptions has many black white photos, line drawing, fold out maps, etc. Second book is text only.  Soft cover with minor bumps and creases  Kushan period site  10.75 x 14.5 inches both volumes. $250.00

15.    Stucky, Rolf, others, Sumer Assur Babylone, 7000 Ans de Culture    Verlag Philipp Von Zabern    1979    Survey IN FRENCH of ancient  Mesopotamia. Prehistoric to early Islamic period.  209 objects photographed in color and black and white.  Cover good condition with minor nicks and scuffs, inside excellent, 8.25 x 9 inches. $20.00



17.    Various Authors, Jahrbuch des Bernischen Historischen Museums, XVI. Jahrgang 1936, Buchdruckerei K. J. Wyss Erben , 1937.  Sun fades on cover, slight creases, otherwise excellent, has 21 page article on Persian axeheads from the Moser collection with many black and white illustrations, other articles on various subjects. $40.00

18.    Various Authors, Sumer, a Journal of Archaeology in Iraq, Directorate-General of Antiquities-Iraq, 1951/1952/1953, 3 copies of Sumer, Vol. VII. 1951. pages creased on one corner, No. 2, Vol. VIII, 1952, No. 2, Vol. IX. 1952, No 1.  All are in good useable condition but all have peeling spines and fading on the front cover.  There are small stickers on the spines with inventory numbers.   Text is clean with no fading or marks that I could see.  Two issues have an article on Abbasid coins.  Most articles are excavation reports on BC sites.  Mostly in English and Arabic with a few articles in French and German. $100 for lot of three.

19.    Various Authors, Jahrbuch des Bernischen Historischen Museums, XV. Jahrgang 1935, Bernischen Historischen Museum, 1936. Yearbook of the Bern Historical Museum, 12 page article on Persian knives with many illustrations, various other articles. Faded cover with many notations (corrections?) on a few articles but not on knife piece, 166 pages, 6.75 x 9.5 inches. In German. $35.00

20.    Various Authors, Osterreichische Monatsschrift Fur Den Orient, Osterreichischen Handelsmuseums in Wien, 1914-1916. Seven copies of this journal: 40 Jahrgang, Jan/Feb 1914, Number 1/2, 41 Jahrgang, Number 1-2, 1915, 41 Jahrgang Number 3-4, 1915, 41 Jahrgang, Number 5-8, 1915, 41 Jahrgang, Number 9-12, 1915 (complete for 1915), Jahrgang 42, Number 1-6, 1916, Jahrgang 42, Number 7-12, 1916 (complete for year) generally in good condition with minor wear and soiling on cover.  a few issues have some splitting and peeling on spine, sparingly illustrated with black and white photographs, 9 x 12 inches. In German. $120 the lot of seven.

21.    Westphal-Hellbusch, Sigrid/Ilse Bruns, Metallgefabe aus Buchara, Museum fur Volkerkunde, 1974. Major study of  19th century Bukharan metalwork. In German. Mostly black and white photographs with a few color.  288 pages text. Good condition.  Cover has some scuffs, bottom right bumped which made  a small crease in cover and first 20 pages. 5.9 x 8.6 inches.    $85.00

22.    Woolley, C. L.    Ur Excavations, The Royal Cemetery, Two Volumes, Joint Publication of the British Museum and the Museum of the University of Pennsylvania, 1934. Areas of cover edging split and peeling, text volume has soiling on cover, plates volume cover is cleaner  but has some scuffs and marks, also underlining on title page.  Important report of wonderful finds, including ancient beads and jewelry, sculpture, etc, 273 plates of color and black and white illustrations, fold out maps,  over 600 pages of text.  An important reference work.  9.75 x 13 inches.    $500.00

23.    Yacopino, Feliccia, Threadlines Pakistan, Ministry of Industries, 1977. Useful book on Pakistani textiles, many color illustrations of textiles and people,  most examples are new but text deals  with historical production. Excellent condition: still sealed in a tattered plastic bag, 132 pages, 9.2 x 9.5 inches.    $25.00

24.    Zeller, R., Fuhrer durch die Oientalische Sammlung H. Moser-Charlottenfels, Bernischen Historischen Museum, 1923.    Articles on the Moser collection with illustrations of Persian, Central Asian, Japanese, etc swords, weapons, armour, also notes and illustrations of Hawaiian and Native American material, 34  black and white photo illustrations, 72 pages text. In excellent condition except for fading on cover. 6 x 9 inches.    $40.00

Generally good condition with a few nicks in hard cover, minor marks and underlining in text, no dust jacket. $45.00

Photolithographic reprint of original 1914 publication,  minor bumps to cover, slight crease on plates, otherwise excellent, hardbound, 184 pages text, 24 black and white plates of coins. $20.00

Excellent condition, no dust jacket (as issued),  reprint from Amsterdam of Dorn's 1877 study, originally printed in St Petersberg, Russia  still useful study of early Islamic Central Asian coins,  232 pages text, 10 plates with line drawings of coins. 31.    Head, Barclay V., Notes on a Recent Find of Staers of Cyzicus, Nusimatic Chronicle, 1876. Original vintage off-print from the Numismatic Chronicle, in paper covers, front cover detached and torn, otherwise good condition, 22 pages text, one plate of coin. $15.00
