Orientteppiche, Band 1 Kaukasische
Teppiche
|
Battenberg Verlag, Munich, 1979.
Publishers' Cloth. Book Condition: Still Sealed in sealed wrapping As New, 10 x 8.5 inches, . IN GERMAN THROUGHOUT, This work is based
upon the rugs and carpets that passed through the hands of Nagel, Stuttgart's
great auction house where the author had worked as the rug expert. It has
been an invaluable guide to rug collectors all over Europe. The Nagel
connection means that every item illustrated also has an estimate of the
value (the price actually achieved at the relevant auction is never shown !).
The work was enormously successful and the publishers were happy to reprint
but, in view of the changing market conditions, they issued the book with a
loose insert showing the then current prices/values. NOTE: When the English
version of this book appeared Doris Eder's commentaries had been dropped and
were replaced by entirely fresh ones by Ian Bennett. Also, the UK version
showed no prices/values

Auction catalogs and Collector's
Journals
|
Malter Gallery, 1973-1993. Lot of 29
auction catalogs and 10 copies of the Malter published Collectors' Journal of
Ancient Art. Not a complete run of either catalogs or journals but there is
the first of each. I am not sure if they actually published a catalog for
every auction so I can't say what is missing. In any case, they are
useful as a reference especially for ancient coins and seals, Malter's strong
points. There is large range of material here, Near East, Greek, Roman,
Egyptian, Islamic, Afghan, African, PreColumbian, Japanese, Chinese,
etc. Interesting collection of objects of all types. Condition is
generally good to excellent. A few have stains and written notes.
Mostly 8.5 x 11 inches.
